Effects of smoking on your health

It would not be too melodramatic to say that if death were to roll itself into a piece of paper that would be called a cigarette. There is not one single argument that cannot support the fact that even a single cigarette can have a zero or nil effects of smoking on your health. Nicotine is the main culprit in cigarettes that is the principal addictive or habit-forming substance in cigarettes. It causes the intense desire and craving for cigarettes that we commonly see in so many smokers.

The harmful effects of smoking are innumerable. These effects range from being highly toxic to deathly poisonous. For example, nicotine is a deadly poison; arsenic found in cigarettes is also a component of rat poison, ammonia that is used to clean the floors is present in cigarettes, the gas that was used in the concentration camps to kill people called hydrogen cyanide is also right there in your cigarette. With the above facts stated, the effects of smoking on your heath are highly obvious.

When you smoke a cigarette, all these chemicals are directly given a pathway to your bloodstream after the lungs absorb them all. The harmful effects of smoking on your health become clear when you notice that your lungs are the worst hit. If you cannot breathe, you cannot live and it is as simple and straight as that. The blood pressure also shoots up and all the arteries and get clogged due to the tar in the cigarette. This can also lead to blood clots in the future. Health problems like these have no immediate cure or solution and would involve expensive treatments and procedures to help you survive.

The airways in the body and the cells lining the tissues and the sacs in the lungs are also harmed and this is just one of the effects of smoking on your health. You might start experiencing a shortness of breath and slowly this leads to uncomfortable coughing and wheezing. The other harmful effects of smoking on your health include ulcers in the mouth, attacks of asthma, fever and colds and flu, extremely bad breath, disease of the gums, etc. These are the harmful effects of smoking on your health. But, those described and mentioned above are just a small part of the story as these are the short-term problems.

If the habit of smoking is not got rid off permanently and given up completely, the long-term effects of smoking on your health could be ulcers in the stomach, cancer of the bladder, the throat and the mouth, the lungs, etc. You are also increasing your chances of suffering from a stroke and non-age related problems with your vision and eyesight. These are the harmful effects of smoking on your health. The likelihood of developing the disease of the bones or commonly known as osteoporosis also reduces as soon you quit smoking. You can therefore avoid the harmful effects of smoking by just quitting the habit as soon as possible!
